  30. Research in agricultural businesses and into managing change through learning
  31. in communities has highlighted the importance of relationships between people
  32. and the formal and informal infrastructure of communities to the quality of
  33. outcomes experienced by communities, businesses and individuals. Communities
  34. can be geographic communities - the data drawn on in this paper are from an
  35. island community, for example or communities-of-common-purpose, such as
  36. agricultural organisations. This paper reviews research into managing change
  37. through learning and social capital, presents a model of the simultaneous
  38. building and use of social capital and explores the ways in which learning as
  39. part of an agricultural community can be used to bring benefits to geographic
  40. communities such as islands. The model presented in this paper stems from
  41. studies of the informal learning process that builds resilient communities. It
  42. conceptualises the way in which social capital is used and built in interactions
  43. between individuals. There are two stages to the model. The first stage depicts
  44. social capital at the micro level of one-on-one interactions where it is built and
  45. used. The second stage of the model is about the interrelationship of micro-level
  46. social capital processes with the community and societal-level social capital

  280. Research in agricultural businesses and into managing change through learning
  281. in communities has highlighted the importance of relationships between people
  282. and the formal and informal infrastructure of communities to the quality of
  283. outcomes experienced by communities, businesses and individuals. Communities
  284. can be geographic communities - the data drawn on in this paper are from an
  285. island community, for example or communities-of-common-purpose, such as
  286. agricultural organisations. This paper reviews research into managing change
  287. through learning and social capital, presents a model of the simultaneous
  288. building and use of social capital and explores the ways in which learning as
  289. part of an agricultural community can be used to bring benefits to geographic
  290. communities such as islands. The model presented in this paper stems from
  291. studies of the informal learning process that builds resilient communities. It
  292. conceptualises the way in which social capital is used and built in interactions
  293. between individuals. There are two stages to the model. The first stage depicts
  294. social capital at the micro level of one-on-one interactions where it is built and
  295. used. The second stage of the model is about the interrelationship of micro-level
  296. social capital processes with the community and societal-level social capital
